Geri Hockfield Malandra was appointed as Provost of Kaplan
University in September 2010. As
Provost, Dr. Malandra provides leadership and support for the academic quality
of the university, including curriculum and innovation, faculty affairs,
accreditation, and governance. Previously, she founded and was principal of
Malandra Consulting LLC, a company created to assist higher education leaders
and connect stakeholders in developing and implementing outcomes-focused
management, accountability, and policy initiatives.
She served as Senior Vice
President for Leadership, Membership, and Policy Research at the American
Council on Education.
Prior to her work
in Washington, Malandra was Vice Chancellor for Strategic Management and for
the fifteen-campus University of Texas System where she led the development of
that system's ten-year strategic plan, its first comprehensive accountability and
performance reports, and a system-wide academic leadership institute. She also served as executive vice chancellor ad interim for academic affairs,
overseeing the work of the nine universities in the U.T. System.
Her public service includes the appointment
by U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings to serve as a member and vice
chair of the NACIQI, the committee that oversees accreditation.
At the University of Minnesota, as Associate Vice Provost, she led the development of Minnesota's first comprehensive accountability reporting system, as well as policy initiatives and legislative reports on issues related to accountability, accreditation, academic program review, and planning issues. She held earlier management and policy positions focused on faculty and research development, and organizational improvement, in the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Continuing Education.
Dr. Malandra holds degrees from Carleton College (B.A.), and the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (M.A. and Ph.D.).
